# Moving off Branch: what to know before you switch

Moving off Branch? See Branch's export windows, the 30-day renewal notice and 90-day data terms, how its SKAN endpoint works and what to plan for link domains.

**Short answer**

Moving off Branch means exporting log-level data inside short rolling windows, giving notice under the agreement, moving SKAN to one new SDK and planning the link domain move with care. Branch's agreement says it has no obligation to keep Customer Data beyond **90 days** after the services end.

## What does leaving Branch involve?

Leaving Branch is the work of exporting the data you want to keep, removing the Branch SDK and its partner postbacks, moving SKAN conversion value management and your link domains to a new provider, and closing the contract on its published notice terms.

The link domain needs particular care, because Branch hosts the domains that existing links live on. The five workstreams:

- **Data:** pull log-level and aggregate exports before the windows roll past.
- **Contract:** find the renewal date and the 30-day notice point.
- **SKAN:** opt the Branch SDK out of SKAN handling once the new SDK takes over.
- **Links:** plan the DNS change for each custom domain.
- **Partners:** disable each partner in Partner Management.

## What can you export from Branch before you go?

Branch's log-level exports have short rolling windows, while its aggregate APIs cover two years. The [Branch API index](https://help.branch.io/apidocs/index.md) lists these windows:

| Export | Data type | Window |
|---|---|---|
| Daily Exports | Log-level | 7-day rolling |
| Custom Exports | Log-level | 120-day rolling |
| Scheduled Log Exports | Log-level | Hourly or daily, no window listed |
| Cross-Events, Aggregate, Cohort and Query APIs | Aggregate | 2-year rolling |

- **Daily Exports API:** data stays available for 6 months after it is posted, needs a Data Feeds subscription and Admin access, and many fields, including IP address and advertising identifiers, are hashed after 7 days.
- **Retention policy:** aggregated metrics are kept (anonymised) for up to 24 months, pseudonymised activity logs are deleted after 12 months, and postback records are kept for 7 days.

Because the log-level windows are short, set up scheduled exports to your own storage early. The guide to [keeping historical attribution data](https://switchmmp.com/guides/keep-historical-attribution-data/) covers what to keep.

## What do Branch's published terms say about notice and your data?

Branch's [SaaS Main Services Agreement](https://legal.branch.io/saas/branch-saas-main-services-agreement/) (v9.1, last updated 22 April 2026) sets the defaults below. Your Order Form may differ.

- **Renewal:** subscriptions renew automatically for one-year terms unless either party gives written notice at least 30 days before the term ends (s.11.2).
- **How to give notice:** customer notice goes by email to billing@branch.io (s.11.2).
- **Renewal price:** Branch's list price at renewal, unless the Order Form says otherwise (s.11.2).
- **Data after termination:** Branch has "no obligation to retain Customer Data" beyond 90 days after the services expire or end (s.11.5).

## How does Branch handle SKAN, and what changes?

- **SDK default:** the Branch SDK is opted in by default to call Apple's SKAN methods. Branch says that with a third-party library or custom SKAN integration, you should opt out of Branch SDK handling.
- **Where the schema lives:** conversion values are mapped in the Branch dashboard. The schema URL for Meta appears under Ads > Partner Management > Facebook only when Branch SDK support is opted in under SKAdNetwork Configurations.
- **Meta:** in Events Manager you choose "Import from Partner App", paste the Branch URL and click Connect. At least one value must be mapped, or Meta receives an empty response.
- **What changes:** when the new SDK takes over, opt Branch out, then import the new provider's URL into Meta so only one source sets values.
- **Google Ads:** a Branch flow for Google reading the schema is not published. Google advises setting the schema in one place.

The guide to [remapping SKAN conversion values](https://switchmmp.com/guides/remap-skan-conversion-values/) covers the handover order.

## What happens to Branch link domains?

- **Default domain:** each account gets an app.link domain, which can be changed only once.
- **Custom domains:** a custom subdomain points its CNAME at custom.bnc.lt. Branch then becomes the authoritative host, and Branch says you "will lose access" to that subdomain, so it advises against using your main website domain.
- **Hosting:** Branch hosts the apple-app-site-association file and SSL certificates for custom domains.
- **Changing domains:** Branch says changing the link domain can break existing links and needs app code updates.
- **Links after the account ends:** not published.

**Deferred deep linking:** sending a new user to specific in-app content after they install and first open the app. See this definition of [deferred deep linking](https://linkrunner.io/glossary/what-is-deferred-deep-linking?utm_source=switchmmp&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=from-branch).

Because one domain serves one apple-app-site-association file, a custom domain can point at only one provider at a time. Moving it means changing DNS to the new host, which then serves its own files.

## Which partner integrations do you switch off?

Ad partners are enabled at Ads > Partner Management with "Save & Enable", and basic postbacks for events such as Install and Purchase are switched on automatically. Disable each partner there once the new provider's postbacks are confirmed.

## Does Branch publish a guide for running two MMPs?

We did not find one. The guide to [running two MMP SDKs in parallel](https://switchmmp.com/guides/run-two-mmp-sdks-in-parallel/) covers the general steps, including keeping only one SDK on SKAN.

## Planning a Branch timeline

Choose Branch in the planner on the [home page](https://switchmmp.com/), then work through the [migration checklist](https://switchmmp.com/checklist/). A neutral overview of other providers is at [Branch alternatives](https://mmpcompares.com/branch-alternatives/).

## Questions

**How long can I export log-level data from Branch?**

Daily Exports cover a 7-day rolling window and Custom Exports a 120-day rolling window. Aggregate APIs cover a 2-year rolling window.

**How much notice does Branch's agreement need?**

The published agreement renews subscriptions for one-year terms unless written notice is given at least 30 days before the term ends. Customer notice goes by email to billing@branch.io.

**Will my Branch links keep working after I leave?**

What happens to Branch links when an account ends is not published. Branch does say changing the link domain can break existing links, so plan the domain move before the contract ends.

**Do I need to turn off Branch's SKAN handling?**

Yes, if another SDK will manage conversion values. Branch says to opt out of Branch SDK handling when a third-party library or custom SKAN integration is in place.

**How long does it take to switch MMP?**

This site's planner pencils in about 7 to 12 weeks from contract check to retiring the old setup, most of it a 2 to 4 week parallel run. No vendor publishes a standard length; your release cycle, renewal notice and ad-network learning phases set the real pace.

**Can I run two MMP SDKs at the same time?**

Yes, for a while. AppsFlyer and Singular both publish guides for measuring with two MMPs, but SKAN postbacks go to only one MMP, TikTok supports one MMP at a time and X Ads does not support two.
